The 50 M-Tron Select Patches were created within M-Tron Pro and ported to M-Tron Select.
Each single manual Mellotron M400 contained just 3 sounds with virtually no on-board sound editing possible. Changing sounds involved removing the tape-frame and replacing it with a second frame laced with a different set of tapes.
M-Tron Select contains 6 vital Mellotron tape-banks with these being mixed, matched, and edited into 50 Patches each designed to show how M-Tron Pro can manipulate its tape-banks into new sounds while retaining that wonderful vintage tone associated with the Mellotron.
Sound A: MkII Flute Sound B: MkII Flute
To say the Melly Flute is a legendary sound is an understatement. It first entered the public’s consciousness with The Beatles track, Strawberry Fields Forever and has subsequently been used by everyone from Oasis, Vampire Weekend, I Monster and hundreds more. This Patch is the sound of the raw Flute tape-bank, with no effects applied.
Sound A: Male Choir Sound B: Male Choir
Famously described as ‘dead men singing’ this Male Choir set of recordings (or as it’s called on our set of tapes, ‘Herren Chor/Mannen Chor’) has been used by everyone from Tangerine Dream to Radiohead. This Patch is the raw Male Choir with no effects applied.
Sound A: MkII Violins Sound B: MkII Violins
The iconic Three Violins sound was originally recorded by Harry Chamberlin for his Chamberlin instruments, but which later became a staple part of the Mellotron sound. Used by legions of bands and artists on scores of classic recordings including The Moody Blues’ Nights in White Satin. Their keyboard player, Mike Pinder, used this sound on every Moody Blues album he recorded, processing it with EQ and an EMT plate reverb. This Patch is the raw MkII Violins with no effects applied.

Haunting and beautiful. THE classic Mellotron vibraphone sound with no effects applied
Sound A: GC3 Brass Sound B: GC3 Brass
Named after the late-great George Chisholm, this is a blend of a twice bounced tenor saxophone and a trumpet for that ‘psychedelically’ phased brass noise. This Patch is the raw GC3 Brass with no effects applied.
