Macros are where you can assign various Oberheim OB-1 parameters to a set of Macro knobs and then changing the position of those knobs will affect the assigned parameters. These assignments can be as simple (ie with a single parameter applied) or complex, with multiple parameters applied at different values.

To apply a parameter to a specific Macro knob:

  1. Click and drag the crosshair icon on the right of the desired Macro knob, and drop it onto the parameter you wish to control with that Macro knob. The green macro highlight will flash and light up to indicate the assignment has been made.
  2. To adjust this amount, right-click* and drag up or down. You’ll see a corona fill the outer knob accordingly. This corona indicates the amount of control the macro knob applies to the parameter.

<aside> ⚠️ The macro highlight and corona lines will disappear when the macro is not in immediate use. They’ll display again when you click on a macro knob.

Once your assignments are complete, the numerical display adjacent to the Macro knob will indicate the number of parameters that the Macro knob will control when turned.

You can also click on that display and remove any parameters via the arrow adjacent to its name and the aptly named ‘remove’ text.

As we explained earlier, the Macro section can create simple or highly complex setups.

To set specific Macro values to an assigned parameter, make sure the coloured line is evident on that parameter and the main display is showing that parameter as an active Macro control destination (e.g. VCF CUTOFF MACRO AMOUNT). Then, double-click the main display window and type the required value.
