Whilst IconDrum is specifically based on the LinnDrum (often known as the “LM-2”), we have also expanded the sound set available to include samples from it’s predecessor, the Linn LM-1. As well as providing processed samples in 3 distinct styles.
Whilst we acknowledge that “LM-2” was never a formal name of any instrument, we have chosen to use it in IconDrum to help distinguish and separate the generations of instrument.
Recorded directly from two original and well maintained LinnDrums. The LM-2 A has a slightly brighter sound than the LM-2 B, which has more mid-range. We were only intending to include one set, but ultimately were interested in the variation and wanted to provide both.
This is the LM-2 A set that has been sampled through a path of classic 80s hardware, including EQ, compression and studio grade tape. The aim with this set is to provide a starting point to those classic 80s sounds that we have all come to love and identify with.
The LM-2 A set run through modern, digital EQ and compression processing.
The LM-2 A set run through an old and worn tape machine, deliberately overblown and distorted.
Samples taken directly from a well maintained Linn LM-1. We acknowledge that the LM-1 had a unique method of processing hi-hats that IconDrum does not emulate, preferring to focus on the method used in the later instruments. The LM-1 also did not contain Ride and Crash samples. The rimshot sound has been renamed sidestick to match the vernacular used by the LM-2
